22 CALIBER (Study on the Sound of a Gun)
(2019 / 2025)

Sound installation

:: Audio: (de)composed sound loop (3'42"), cylindrical metal residue, audio player, speaker.

A rusting cylindrical metal vessel exhales a sonic decomposition of a field recording featuring a single shot from a .22 caliber automatic pistol.

The original gunshot sound is a field recording from the artist at a shooting range in Hialeah, Miami-Dade, FL (USA). This work continues the research initiated in Study on the Sound of a .22developed during an artistic residency in Miami. It takes part of DESHABIT(u)AR*—a project of sonic re-territorialization within the collective Geopoéticas Subalternas.

(*) The DESHABIT(u)AR project explores auralities of socio-cultural territories through the study and analysis of sonic events whose collective resonance becomes affectively and conflictually charged.

                         Residual Resonances

A gunshot's iconic report —instantaneous, intense— morphs into atmospheric matter. Its spectral vibrations now pulse through and push against the metallic cavity of the device.
